In 2020, the National Development Planning Commission of Ghana organized a national forum to discuss the importance of Ghanaian values for national development. The event reflects growing concerns that once cherished Ghanaian values have been lost or are under threat of being lost. Discussions about changing societal values are not unique to Ghana. Understanding values are important because they show direction in which a society is moving toward. This is important for education, social and policy development. Values have been conceptualized as desirable goals that motivate action and beliefs linked to emotion that transcend specific actions and situations, serve as standards and criteria for decision-making, are ordered by relative importance to one another, and guide action according to the relative importance of multiple values (Schwartz, 1996).
With these initiatives to help people build back, one area that has been fundamental to achieving resilience of people, households, and communities is mental health. In Ghana, there have been efforts by the government to improve mental healthcare services at all levels.
The challenges confronting the new generation are enormous and they need help to learn appropriately our cultural heritages and values and unlearn some of the foreign cultures that only create false identity and are inimical to our development as people.
Mental Health is one of the areas of interventions by providing resources to enable persons with mental health access professional counseling services. The following notable results are worthy of highlighting.
Provided financial resources and facilitated the required linkages to professional services to resettle three young ladies who lived in abusive relationships.
Led crowd funding initiatives to support medical bills of poor and needy in Ghana especially students
Facilitated counselling and including motivation to mentally psyched over 50 people to pursue their dreams, who have become better versions of themselves without entertaining fears, feeling small, or intimidated by their thoughts, situations and or people.
Trained and coached a lot of people in entrepreneurship who have gone ahead to build businesses making a living out of it.
Supported and facilitated more than 20 African Americans in the diaspora who found themselves in Ghana, a different culture, language and systems to settle comfortably and live their best lives.
Supported 20 people to find their purpose in life who today are living their lives.
Coached more than 50 people to live healthier lives through better nutrition counselling and heathy lifestyles.
Women's empowerment is a critical development concern worldwide, especially in developing countries. National and international initiatives have made efforts to reduce the disparities among women but, the empowerment goals are yet to be completely realized globally: hence the establishment of the Center for gender and social inclusion
The structural disabilities of women, children, and the mentally and physically challenged are evident in the spheres of education, economic, social, and political life, resulting in their social exclusion. Social inclusion of the vulnerable and underprivileged will influence them to participate in everything to change the world into a better one.
